Just last week, on June 11-14, me and my two best friends went to Surabaya, Malang, and Bromo. We bought the tickets from AirAsia a year ago, and only spent exactly 137.000 rupiah per person for Jakarta – Surabaya – Jakarta route.

Our main agenda for this trip was Bromo, and I already arranged a schedule after consulted with my friends who already went there. But just a few weeks before the trip, we received bad news that ruined the schedule. Two of them is from AirAsia: they changed our Jakarta – Surabaya flight from 8 am to 3 pm, and reschedule our Surabaya – Jakarta flight from 9 pm to 5 pm. Our trip became shorter than it was supposed to be! Not only that, one of my friends also said that she had to come back to Jakarta on June 13, so, again, our trip schedule needed a new makeover!

Fortunately, just a couple of days before we went to Surabaya, this friend of mine decided that she could stay with us until June 14, so, our last schedule was like this:

Friday, June 11, 2010
5 pm –> arrived in Surabaya, joined a travel service that picked us up at Juanda Airport and took us to our destination in Malang.
8 pm –> arrived at the house of a friend of my friend (Mbak Donna) in Malang.
8.30 pm –> dinner in Malang.

Saturday, June 12, 2010
8 am to 10 pm –> traveling in style (in a Mercedes!) in Malang (thanks to my new friend, Mbak Donna!). Some of the places we stopped by: the famous Oen restaurant (since 1940s), agrowisata (where we picked strawberries and saw other fruit and vegetable plants), tea plantation (where I bought the delicious macadamia nuts! :D), and the creepy Niagara Hotel (totally worth it if you’re into old and haunted-like buildings. Built since 1900, it was the first 5th floor building in Indonesia at the time!).

Sunday, June 13, 2010
2 am –> our Bromo travel service picked us up (with a Toyota Rush) to go to Bromo.
5 am –> arrived at some hotel (I forgot the name) to have a tea break and changed our vehicle into a 4-wheel-drive, included in the Bromo travel service package)
5.30 am –> arrived at Pananjakan to watch the sunrise.
6.30 am –> still with the 4-wheel-drive, we went down to see Bromo for an up-close and personal experience.
9.30 am –> arrived at the hotel again and changed our vehicle back to Toyota Rush. Time to go to Surabaya.
12 pm –> have lunch somewhere in between Bromo and Surabaya.
2 pm –> arrived at Surabaya. Checked in the Royal Regal Hotel. Very tired so we just crashed until 8 pm and called room service for dinner :p

Monday, June 14, 2010
8.30 am –> had breakfast at the hotel.
10.30 am –> checked out, kept our bags at the hotel for later pick-up, then went to Tunjungan Plaza by taxi (we’re supposed to meet a friend there, but then she cancelled).
12 pm –> went to look for the famous Bebek Yudi with taxi. Unfortunately they weren’t opened yet! Then we changed route to look for bandeng asap at Genteng Market.
1.30 pm –> went to a restaurant called Begor or fried duck (but we ended up eating fish :p).
2 pm –> we’re still rode the same taxi we took from Tunjungan Plaza. We went back to the hotel to get our bags. We changed taxi then went straight to Juanda Airport.
5 pm –> our flight back to Jakarta.

Liza travel –> to go from Juanda Airport to Malang.
Javacances –> to go from Malang to Bromo and Surabaya.

I’ve just finished a trip with Javacances. What a disapointment!
They cancelled parts of the trip on the spot and did not propose anything in exchange.
      Far from my expectations.

      • dear sarah,

so sorry to hear that. you should really contact the Javacances people about this. hope you still enjoyed Bromo, though 🙂
